Portsmouth maintained their unbeaten away record with a 2:1 win at Wimbledon. The visitors had clearly the better of things in the first half and deservedly lead going into the break thanks to goals by Tom Naylor and Gareth Evans. However, the Dons vastly improved after the side change and pulled a goal back through James Hanson on 63 minutes. The hosts huffed and puffed in the remainder of the game but struggled to create chances and hence failed to net a leveler.

The hosts were on top from the word go. Joe McDonnell made three excellent saves to keep his side on level terms but the hosts fell behind on 24, when Tom Naylor headed home from a Dion Donohue corner delivery.

The visitors remained well on top after the goal and went close through Oliver Hawkins before doubling their lead through Evans, who fired home from a low cross by Lee Brown.

Portsmouth were threatening to run riot and Evans came close to giving them a three-goal lead, but it was 20 going into the break.

Neal Ardley made a triple change during the half-time break and his side improved initially. However, Portsmouth remained the more threatening side and Donohue flashed a shot just wide.

A poor clearance by Evans allowed the hosts to reduce their deficit through Hanson on 63, while Jake Jervis came close moments later, heading straight at the visiting keeper when he should have done better.

The Dons had more of the ball in the remainder of the game but failed to create a single clear chance in the closing twenty minutes, as Portsmouth deservedly held on.

It was a decent second-half display by Neal Ardley's men, but their first-half performances left them with too much to do. The Dons have been in poor form lately and a fixture against the leaders was hardly the right opportunity for them to get back on track. On the other side, it was more of the usual for Pompey, who bounced back from their shock home defeat to Gillingham. They remain at the top of the League one table and unbeaten on their travels.
