After 30 torturous years of waiting for the domestic title, Liverpool, England's most successful team, finally lifted their first ever Premier League trophy this season. It was masterclass of consistency from the Reds and they were crowned champions with 7 rounds to spare. Hardly surprising considering that just 2 points were dropped up until late February – (W26 D1 L0)!
Undoubtedly their main strengths were near-perfect home form (W18 D1 L0) and ruthless defending. They didn’t concede more than 1 goal in a game until round 27. This allowed the Reds to win those matches in which they didn’t play well - they achieved 14 league wins by a single-goal margin.
Hard to pick any weaknesses in what was near-perfect season, but Klopp must be slightly concerned by the fact that his star wingers Mane and Salah twice argued publicly during the campaign and they are obviously not best of friends.
Of all the impressive performances and excellent managerial job done by Klopp, the standout player was undoubtedly Van Dijk. The Dutch giant started every league game, looked extremely solid no matter which of their other 3 centre-backs partnered him and didn’t have dip in form all season.
The outlook for next season is good, although other teams in the league are strengthening and Salah reportedly wants to move to a bigger club (Real Madrid, Barca and Juve are all circling). It will be major challenge for Liverpool to defend their title.
