Middlesbrough snatched a late point against Derby despite being outplayed as this match finished 1-1 and a tale of two own goals. George Friend put into his own net for dominant Derby early on but they were pegged back as Jayden Bogle scored in his own net in comedy fashion late on. Both sides remain inside the top six but this was a big chance missed especially for the Rams.
Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis has often resorted to defence-first systems and did so again with Dael Fry coming into the side and Britt Assombalonga in attack on his own. Derby boss Frank Lampard had no reason to change his side after a fine 4-1 win at West Brom on Wednesday night so again they were unchanged.
This was a dominant display from the off from Derby as they took the game to Boro. Jack Marriott went close early on before Harry Wilson nearly scored a sensational goal.
But on 19 minutes the Rams did take the lead with the ball going in off Friend for an own goal under pressure from Martyn Waghorn. Derby should have immediately gone further ahead with a hat-trick of chances including a Wilson effort going off the bar.
Middlesbrough offered something of a response but only from set pieces with Aden Flint twice going close before the break.
Boro were much better after the break especially when Pulis made three subs. An equaliser never looked like coming though until Bogle shinned in in embarrassing fashion.
Derby will be so disappointed with this as they were much the better side for long periods and will feel they should have seen this out. Middlesbrough produced a typical Tony Pulis style comeback in the second half and will be pleased with a draw overall.
