Leeds won the Yorkshire battle of two sides in contention for promotion as they left it late before finding the winner at Sheffield United. Pablo Hernandez's late effort had a big dose of good fortune about it but it was enough to settle this contest and keep Leeds 2nd. The Blades though have now dropped down to 6th after this disappointing afternoon.
George Baldock, Mark Duffy and Billy Sharp all returned to the Sheffield United side for this game. Leeds had Pontus Jansson back in defence.
Leeds have not had much luck on the injury front of late and lost Liam Cooper early on with Aapo Halme on in his place. Halme immediately went close, denied by Dean Henderson.
The Blades will feel they should have taken the lead though with Sharp heading over from David McGoldrick's cross. Bailey Peacock-Farrell then saved well to foil McGoldrick.
It was poor defending from John Egan and Henderson that led to the winner eight minutes from time as Henderson played the ball straight to Jack Clarke who set up Hernandez to score.
But the Blades could have snatched a late leveller as sub Conor Washington hit the bar with a bicycle kick.
The hosts will consider themselves unlucky given the goal they conceded and chances they created. Leeds are continuing to find a way of grinding out wins, this was another example of their winning mentality.
