Sunderland came from two goals behind to continue their run of draws with a 2:2 against Accrington Stanley. Two-nil down on 52 minutes, the Black Cats leveled within ten minutes. However, they once again lacked sharpness in the final third and a turnaround proved beyond them.
The hosts had the better of things early on, with recent signing Will Grigg wasting two gilt-edged chances inside the opening half hour.
The misses were punished on the half-hour mark, when Paul Smyth drew a foul inside the area and Billy Kee converted the resulting penalty.
Smyth himself got on the score sheet on 52 minutes, but the hosts leveled with two goals in ten minutes, with George Honeyman and Aiden McGeady finding the back of the net.
Stanley never really threatened to retake the lead, while the Black Cats kept pushing forward and had their chances. However, a go-ahead goal proved beyond the hosts.
More frustration for Sunderland, who suffered another blow in their bid to finish inside the top two. Accrington will be frustrated to have let a two-goal lead slip, but they at least got a draw at a tough ground and ended their run of games without scoring a goal.
