Striker James Norwood's 32nd goal of the season was enough to send Tranmere Rovers to Wembley as they drew 1-1 with Forest Green Rovers in the second leg of their play-off semi-final at the New Lawn. He cancelled out full-back Joseph Mills' opener and the hosts finished with ten men with midfielder Carl Winchester receiving two yellows.
It was a howler from the usually-reliable Scott Davies which gifted the home side the lead; allowing Mills header to bounce off his body and into the net.
They were unable to build upon the goal however and the visitors levelled with a well-crafted equaliser; Norwood hitting a superbly executed volley past home goalkeeper Lewis Ward.
It gave them control of the game leading into half-time as they snapped into tackles, winning most of the second balls and harrying their opponents.
The hosts enjoyed the greater possession at the start of the second half but were unable to test Davies, with Christian Doidge an anonymous figure in attack.
They were dealt a huge blow when Winchester was shown a second yellow to leave them with ten men. They then appeared to lose heart with Tranmere keeping hold of the ball.
Norwood was a constant threat on the counter attack and could have won it on the night; curling a shot over the bar.
Tranmere Rovers were the better side over the two legs and deserved their 2-1 aggregate victory. Forest Green Rovers were never allowed to play their usual passing game.
