Leeds took a giant stride towards the play-off final as they won 1-0 at Derby. Kemar Roofe was the hero with the second half winner with Derby producing a poor performance in attack. Leeds will be somewhat wary of their injury list though.
Derby were without Martyn Waghorn so Dave Nugent came into lead the line. Pontus Jansson was ruled out of this game for Leeds, a big blow to the defence, with Gaetano Berardi coming in.
This was always going to be a feisty affair with Leeds found guilty of spying on Derby earlier in the season. The Rams though were toothless in attack, missed Waghorn, with Harry Wilson, Mason Mount, Tom Lawrence and Nugent unable to step up.
Leeds suffered further injury to Adam Forshaw with Jamie Shackleton coming on for him in the first half.
The visitors claimed the crucial goal with a clever finish from Roofe in the second half for his 15th of the season.
There was controversy though as Jack Harrison was adjudged to have fouled Jayden Bogle in the area. A penalty was given before it was overturned after consultation with the linesman.
A great result for Leeds with a fine defensive display. They will need to assess their injury situation which has the potential to cause real difficulties. Derby know they need to offer more of an attacking threat but they are not out of this tie.
