Three goals in six minutes was enough to see Real Salt Lake collapse and fall to a 4-0 hammering at New York Red Bulls. All goals came in the second half, but the home side dominated from the get-go and constantly forced Rimando into action throughout. It took an own goal from Silva to open the floodgates, however, and further efforts from Royer, Maurillo, and Fernandez put the gloss on the scoreline.

The first-half had a strong pattern to the game. New York bossed possession and looked to exploit the space in the final third that RSL left wide open. Rimando was forced into some reaction stops in the first 45, and it seemed inevitable New York would score.

Throughout the contest, RSL were barely a threat. They had several efforts on target that were bread and butter for Robles.

Salt Lake did offer some promising combinations at the start of the second half. But, again, their final ball consistently let them down on the day.

It looked as though New York were going to be frustrated in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half, but RSL inexplicably crumbled after another defensive error put them 1-0 behind through Silva's own goal.

They were carved open for the final three goals of the contest too. Royer took two touches to control and slot past Rimando, whilst Maurillo picked up a Muyl cut-back, dribbled past two and fired home.

The final goal came from more good play to release Ivan. His cut-back was then slammed home by Fernandez, in what was a ruthless streak from New York to end the game on a high.

This was a no-contest from the start in truth. RSL did try to frustrate from the start, but only good goalkeeping from Rimando kept this one level at 0-0. There were chances for the home side throughout the first-half, but couldn't provide the finishing touch. The second 45, however, was much different. New York were clinical, whilst RSL caved in and gave the ball away consistently. A massively disappointing day for the visitors, but a huge three points for NYRB.
