Middlesbrough are now 10 games without a win after they let slip a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to Hull. Boro were cruising thanks to Marcus Tavernier and Ashley Fletcher goals. But then Marvin Johnson was sent off and Hull took advantage with Jarrod Bowen scoring both goals. Despite the draw Middlesbrough did haul themselves out of the bottom three on goal difference.
George Friend was back missing again so Jonny Howson started in central defence. Hull had Tom Eaves back with Bowen playing a more withdrawn role.
Middlesbrough were much the better side early and thoroughly deserved their 2-0 lead achieved thanks to goals from Tavernier, who scored from close range, and Fletcher who scored a wonderful second after smart play with strike partner Britt Assombalonga.
The game clearly changed when Johnson was dismissed for a studs up challenge on Eric Lichaj, which meant Fletcher was subbed at the break.
Boro defended for their lives but it was in-form Bowen who struck late with two goals. First he scored from distance with his left foot and then he scrambled home at the second attempt to make it seven goals in six games.
Boro cannot seem to buy a win at the moment. This was so frustrating for them after they were well in control early on. Hull showed their character but they have a player who keeps delivering in Bowen.
