Game Report

Highlights

Alaves scored a quite late equaliser through Joselu to earn a 1-1 draw against Leganes. The visitors had gone ahead through Martin Braithwaite at the end of a dull first half of few chances and had then played a counter-attacking game in the second half. But the home side fought back to take a point.

Detail

There was very little attacking play in the first half. Instead, there was foul after foul as both sides struggled to get going.

It took until the final 10 minutes of the half for any exciting play in the final third. And Alaves were the team finishing the half in the ascendancy, but against the run of play Leganes took the lead as a great Kevin Rodrigues pass found Braithwaite.

Leganes sat deep to try to defend their lead in the second half. They did a good job and limited Alaves to half chances, while Youssef En-Nesyri and Roque Mesa even had a chance to double the lead on one counter attack.

Alaves made a couple of attack-minded substitutions for the final 20 minutes and eventually got the equaliser they were looking for when Ivan Cuellar spilled a ball and Joselu pounced.

Summary

The story of this game is that neither side created much and a draw was probably a fair result.
