Benfica battled back against the odds to draw 3-3 at home with Rangers. After a Conor Goldson own goal gave the home side the lead, they saw Nicolas Otamendi sent off. Diogo GOncalves put through his own net before Rangers moved ahead through Glenn Kamara and Alfredo Morelos. Benfica fought back late on, with Rafa then Darwin Nunez levelling.
The match started perfectly for the home side as they took the lead after a Filip Helander error. The centre-back had a bad game for Rangers as he was also at the core of the second goal that let Benfica back into the game.
Otamendi’s red card changed the game and allowed Rangers back into it. An incredible own goal saw then level before Kamara scored his first goal in more than a year with a shot from outside the box.
With a man advantage, Rangers were in complete command of the game. They flowed forward impressively but missed key chances through Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack, who hit the post.
Morelos impressed with his overall play, getting an assist, fashioning several good chances and scoring a third that should have sealed the game from close range.
Benfica had shown few signs of coming back into the game but Nunez impressively led their charge, showing good determination to get an assist then finishing emphatically when given a chance in stoppage time.
Although Benfica would have been disappointed with a point at the outset of the match, the outcome in the circumstances was a good one. These two teams will vie for what may be a top-spot decider in Glasgow in matchday four.
