Inter Milan on the brink of elimination after losing at home to Real Madrid. Eden Hazard scored from the spot and Arturo Vidal saw red for complaining about a penalty he didn't get - before Rodrygo came off the bench to kill the game.
Real Madrid without some key players but started confidently - with slick passing and sharp movement. Nacho found space in the box and was tripped by Nicolo Barella for a clear penalty which Hazard converted.
Inter static in defence and sloppy in possession - fortunate not to fall further behind. Lucas Vazquez not closed down and rattled the post from distance whilst Vidal gave the ball away but wasn't punished by Ferland Mendy.
Vidal's night got worse when he received two bookings in quick succession for dissent against the referee. The Chilean incensed he wasn't awarded a penalty but it appeared Raphael Varane got a toe on the ball.
Antonio Conte brought on Danilo D'Ambrosio and Ivan Perisic at half-time - switching to a 4-4-1 system. His side had a decent spell early in the second half as Madrid eased off slightly.
Zinedine Zidane's substitutions gave his side the required lift. Casemiro shored up the midfield and Rodrygo fired in with his first touch from Vazquez's cross - although it got a nick off Achraf Hakimi who was credited with an own-goal.
Inter Milan let down by a moment of madness from one of their experienced players but they can have few complaints about the result. Real Madrid were the superior side when it was 11 vs 11 and deserved the win.
