Game Report

Highlights

Juventus claimed the comprehensive win they needed at the Nou Camp to unseat Barcelona as Group G winners. Cristiano Ronaldo outshone great rival Lionel Messi with two goals from the penalty spot.

Detail

Juventus needed to score 3 to have a chance of topping the group and they made a bright start - popping the ball around at a quick tempo. Ronaldo and Danilo had early shots from distance.

Barcelona were slow in possession and open defensively. Ronaldo given space on the left to run at Ronald Araujo who brought him down for a penalty - which the Portuguese star unsurprisingly dispatched.

Juve's 3-5-2 system worked perfectly - outnumbering the hosts in midfield and the wing-backs a constant attacking threat. Juan Cuadrado superb on the right again - floating a cross for Weston McKennie to volley in.

Barca typically relied on Messi and consistently looked to him to make something happen. The Argentine had a host of shots on target but most of them were fairly comfortable for Gianluigi Buffon.

The visitors continued to show more energy and intensity in the second half. Cuadrado and McKennie combined again in the lead-up to Clement Lenglet's hand-ball in the box spotted by VAR - with Ronaldo unerring one more.

Summary

Dismal display from Barcelona - lacking in motivation, desire and overall effort. Juventus simply wanted it more and were thoroughly deserving of the victory - as well as top spot in the group.
