Football Season Review

№5: St. Gallen

St.Gallen are coming from a decent season which saw them qualify for Europe after finishing fifth, but the mood surrounding them will be less than stellar due to the way their campaign went. The Green-Whites showed signs of promise in the late stages of their previous campaign under Giorgio Contini and their fans were looking forward to seeing that the former Vaduz boss could do in his first full season in charge. One of the major goals set for Contini was to improve the Green-Whites' attacking play and he duly delivered, as St.Gallen played good football and spent the entire season in the top half of the season. Despite struggling with injuries in their squad, the Green-Whites started the spring season well and were even third for a long stretch, but had a losing run in April that eventually resulted in Contini losing his job. St.Gallen were fourth in the table at the time when Contini was sacked and news soon broke that the manager was fired not only due to results, but also due to personal differences with the club's sporting director. The managerless Green-Whites struggled in the late stages of the season and eventually finished fifth and announced that former Sion boss Peter Zeidler would be in charge for the 2017/18 season. It remains to be seen if the experienced manager can reverse their momentum and improve the atmosphere surrounding them following the spring season that they have had.
