After last season’s firm return to top flight, Goiás wasn’t able to keep the pace and had some horrible moments in the year. Verdão was almost relegated shortly after the start of the second half of the season. Not even an extraordinary recovery in January and February was enough to save them.
Goiás had a bad but not too worrying star. 4 defeats in 9 rounds was considered natural for Verdão. Everything went down when October started. Thiago Larghi was inexplicably sacked when the team was starting to deliver, and it was all downhill from there.
After a series of 14 games with just 7 points collected, Goiás was sure to be heading to relegation, and the club even decided to start planning the following season, sending a few players away and asking the coach to play with younger players.
Verdão do Oeste had than an almost miraculous reaction when Enderson Moreira started using an unusual 5-3-2, with some players considered secondary until then. However, the gap was already too big, and the best Goiás could do was to get out from the bottom, and hold a more respectable place on the table.
The season was very irregular and unstable, and so it was the squad performances. For example, Tadeu started as an untouchable reference in goal to end the season as reserve. The two centre-backs Duarte and Sanches were perhaps the most regular units. Shaylon and Breno were important during the best period of the team.
