Tricolor Baiano had their worst season in a while, and for some time they were close to relegation. A good run in ending rounds saved them from relegation and even brought them back to competing in Sul-Americana cup next season.
After three good initial results (2 home wins and an away draw against title contenders São Paulo), Bahia went on a very irregular form throughout the season. Baianos oscillated from awful moments (5L and 1D in September; 7 consecutive defeats in November/December), to some decent series of wins.
Bahia started the last 10 rounds under the red line, and that was when they pulled out their best form of the entire year (4 W, 4D, 2L).
Team suffered due to a few important injuries, but the most serious factor for the problematic season had to do with some inexplicable drop of form from players expected to be key units for the season: Gregore, Rodriguinho, Rossi, Gilberto.
What seems to have saved the team was the unexpected sudden appearance of some unknown youngsters that helped rejuvenating and re-energizing the team for the last rounds, Thiago Andrade, Gabriel Novaes and Patrick de Lucca.
Goalkeeper Douglas and centre-half Ernando were the most consistent units throughout the season. New signing Ramirez was also important, before picking a serious injury himself. Gregore and Rodriguinho appeared in late rounds, in time to pick up the team for important late wins.
Bahia will need to keep the rejuvenating they started in the middle of the season in order to be successful in 2021.
