The 2017 season in the Serie A turned out into a huge success for Corinthians as they managed to claim their seventh title in the club's history, but it was a bumpy road to say the least. The start of the campaign saw Corinthians heading for the fastest title as they managed to stay unbeaten in the first nineteen matches in the Serie A. This was quite surprising with Corinthians' seventh spot from a year earlier still in mind, but Fabio Carille's men somehow seemed unbeatable during the first months of the season.
Their impressive start resulted in a huge gap with clubs like Santos, Palmeiras and Gremio, but Corinthians failed to show their full potential during the second half of the season on more than one occasion. They even recorded a streak of ten matches with only two wins in it, which definitely put the pressure on Corinthians to say the least. The players kept believing in the title however and they eventually broke the resistance from the other clubs by sealing four wins in a row in November, which was enough to lift the trophy.
The Copa Sudamericana didn't turn out into a success as Corinthians failed to reach the last sixteen due to a narrow defeat against Racing Club, but that won't bother the fans at all. This title, already the seventh one since 1990, was the main objective and the staff, the players and the fans will be extremely satisfied as a result. Jo did make a name for himself as well. The striker joined Corinthians at the start of the season and his performances pushed the attack to a higher level. The experienced Jo produced eighteen goals eventually, which was enough to claim the top scorer's title as well.
