Last season under Gerardo Seoane, Gladbach fell backwards in terms of their league position from the previous campaign. Apart from the odd good performance in the league and a cup run to the quarter-finals, there was little to cheer for the fans. The Foals won just 7 of their 34 matches and their DFB Pokal dreams were ended by third-division Saarbrucken. Seoane has been given time by the club with his first season in charge a transitional one, but you get the feeling a positive start will be needed otherwise the murmurs of discontent will soon arise. Their transfer business has been fairly positive so there are reasons to be optimistic. A proper target-man up front has been lacking since Marcus Thuram left, with Jordan not able to put in consistent performances due to injury last season, he has since returned to Union Berlin. The signing of Tim Kleindienst is a good bit of business after his successful first season in the top-flight with Heidenheim. The midfield has also gained an uplift with Stoger and Sander joining from Bochum and Holstein Kiel respectively, both were prominent figures for their sides last season. Neuhaus, Kone, Weigl and Reitz also still remain at present, so that area of the field should be set. They should also be dangerous in attack with new young talent Charles Herrmann providing competition on the wing for Robin Hack, and Alassane Plea still a top player on his day. Defence is the area of weakness that still needs to be addressed, Gladbach conceded 67 goals last season and have yet to make any additions to the position.
