When he acquired the club back in 2015, President Volpe aimed at bringing Le Havre, the self-named oldest club in France, back to the Ligue 1. Despite some positive results, for instance they finished 6th in 2019/2020 and off the top 10 just on a goal difference last season, this did not happen while the club turned out to be more expensive than expected. For such reason, while Volpe is looking for someone to buy out the club, coach Le Guen, confirmed in charge of the team for the third season in a row, will have to make do with a very limited transfer campaign. In fact, Le Havre aimed mostly at building a competitive side while reducing the amount of wages. To this day, though, they proved incapable of both. In fact, so far they only managed to let go a few supporting players, such as Fofana or Bazile, together with Basque, a versatile midfielder/centre-back who played 35 games last season, who left for Azerbaijan, while more departures could occur in the oncoming weeks. At the very same time, Le Havre did not spend any money on new signings yet as they only saw the return of Ben Mohamed from a short-term loan in Turkey, the left-back could regain a starting status also considering that Meras is required elsewhere, and the arrival on loan of Balde, a promising right-back, who is due to make the bench mostly. Le Havre have one of the youngest squads in the Ligue 2 and they look bound to rely always more and more on youngsters coming from their youth system. Last season, Le Havre were disastrous at home while were one of the best travelers of the league and this is one of the problems they will have to solve. Moreover, they had problems scoring goals but they might already have the solution within the squad: Thiare is expected to improve in terms of finishing while experienced Boutaib, who had a troubled past campaign, should also provide more goals.

Target

If they manage to reduce the wages without weakening the backbone of the squad, Le Havre can easily aim at a quiet salvation.
