After only one season spent in Serie B, Siena made it all the way back to the top flight, obtaining the second standing right behind Atalanta. It was not an easy season but Siena managed to ride among the top teams since the very beginning. Now, the management opted for a re-confirm of coach Giuseppe Sannino and for a serious renewal of the squad. It has to be said that Sannino has no experience whatsoever of the Serie A. He never played in it during his career in the pitch and, as a manager, this is his debut in it. In fact, his main results in Serie B so far are a fourth standing with Varese and the promotion with Siena. Of course, this might sound like bad news for Siena supporters, considering that the lack of experience at times can be deadly. In any case, Siena management did their best in order to help Sannino to carry out his job. He usually adopts a classic 4-4-2 formation. For the Serie A, the starting eleven will change substantially. To begin with the goalkeeper: Serbian international Brkcic is expected to be in goals. As for the defence, Belmonte, one of the few who did not sink with Bari, and Contini will join in confirmed Del Grosso and Rossettini, with Angella expected to provide some support when required. In the midfield, the big bet is represented by D'Agostino. After his heydays with Udinese, he failed completely at Fiorentina. This is his chance for redemption. It has to be seen whether he will be able to take it or not. He will be playing in the middle of the park together with Vergassola while Mannini and Sestu will be running along the flanks. Tziolis, Gazzi and Codrea should provide some decent back-up. But not much else. As for the attack, it seems the weak point of the team with Calaiò to be flanked by Destro or Paolucci. A bit too light as an attack, indeed.

Target

Siena want to remain in Serie A but it will be hard considering that they seem rather fragile in all the sides of the pitch. Candidate for an immediate return to the Serie B also due to coach Sannino's lack of experience.
