Despite some hiccups early in the season, past July AIK stabilised their results and, thanks to an impressive end to the campaign that saw Yellow and Blacks achieving 6 wins and 4 draws in the last 10 rounds, they were able to finish in the prestigious 2nd spot.
The early months of the campaign saw AIK missing on wins because of their ineffective finishing and all of Goitom, Avdic, Markkanen and Krpic struggled in front of goal up until June. The last two left in the summer and neither of the four of them finished the campaign with more than 5 goals. To address the forward problems coach Norling made three crucial transfers during the summer months, by that point AIK were trailing outside the top four because of the few unexpected home draws and the series of undeserved defeats on the road, and this changed everything.
The arrivals of the very effective left midfielder Lindqvist and the attacking duo Obasi-Stefanelli transformed the displays. The last two scored 14 goals between them in just 25 appearances, while Lindqvist helped with 4 goals and 2 assists in the second part of the season. The one player that really impressed from start to finish this year was the versatile right-back Sundgren, who played with great success both in a back four and also as an advanced midfielder in the much more successful 3-5-2 formation. His aggression and tireless runs brought lots of joy for AIK.
These were the main reasons why AIK improved their results vastly in the final ten rounds and, thanks to decisive big wins against Hacken, Elfsborg and Jonkopings in three consecutive rounds in September, Norling’s men secured the second spot.
