Djurgarden were crowned champions thanks to their great efficiency in winning matches by single goal margins. Blue and Blacks had neither the best defence (2nd best defence) nor the best attack (5th strongest attack), but still they won 20 of 30 league games and finished at the top of the tree in the end, leaving Malmo and Hammarby a point behind them.
The first 2 months of the season were difficult. Djurgarden failed to defend their Swedish Cup trophy after exiting this competition in semi-finals and also won only 3 of opening 8 league games (D3 L2).
The positive change began in mid-May with win in round 9 that started amazing 13-game unbeaten run (W11 D2) that come the end of August saw Djurgarden moving from mid-table to the top of the tree.
Many of these wins were by just 1 goal margins, with top scorer Buya Turay able to score 14 goals in the league, but never scoring more than 1 in a match. The defenders were also crucial with all of them scoring decisive goals. The most influential of them all was captain Danielsson, who was not only the main pillar at the back but also scored 4 late goals, with 3 of those bringing crucial wins!
His partner at the back Berg got injured in round 12 never to return for the rest of the campaign, but this was the only notable long-term absentee and the health of everyone else remained good, which also played crucial role.
The title remained undecided right until the end after Djurgarden suffered derby defeats vs. AIK in round 22 and Hammarby in round 28, with the drama about to reach boiling point on the final day of the season.
Djurgarden needed only a draw on their visit to Norrkoping to wrap up the title and they secured 2:2 result, but had to do it the hard way as they crawled their way back from 0:2 down. In the end the character that put them in the position to win the title helped them to achieve the final push that was needed.
