Despite having by far the best home record in the league (W13 D2 L0) Hammarby were unable to win the title, with 1 point the deficit to the champions in the end. Green and Whites also had by far the strongest attack in the league with as many as 5 players finishing the season in double digit for goals.
Looking back Hammarby would see that they failed to win the title due to their poor start to the campaign. Just 1 win in the opening 5 rounds (D2 L2) and generally shaky results up until the end of June left the team with way too much work to do.
From round 14 onwards Hammarby had the best form in the league by a country mile – (W14 D1 L1)! However, the damage that was done early proved too much and despite ending the season with 8 consecutive wins the chance to lift the title was missed.
An abundance of forward talent was well orchestrated by captain Tankovic and top scorer Djurdjic, with Kacaniklic starting the season slow but then gathering pace. Same was valid for Rodic, while the top scorer from the first 15 rounds Kjartansson was recalled by his parent club in July and he couldn’t help after that.
Bojanic had breakthrough season in the heart of the midfield. Making the most of Ngouali’s injury (missed first 21 rounds) Bojanic ended the campaign with 5 goals and 13 assists, making him key figure during the impressive late run.
Defensively Hammarby were shaky and this proved costly as at least some of the 5 away defeats that were suffered were avoidable with better defending. In the end the inability to protect draws on the road proved costly and instead of lifting the title the team had to settle for the least precious medal.
