Sirius once again did just about enough to survive in the top flight, with safety secured with 2 games to spare and in the end the lead over the bottom 3 was 6 points. Also telling for the solid season was the fact that Sirius spent just 1 week inside the relegation zone.
Crucial for the survival was the efficiency against their direct rivals with 7 of the 8 league wins in 2019 achieved against fellow teams in the bottom half of the table.
Blue and Blacks had to replace their coach for 7 years last winter, but the new boss Rydstrom trusted pretty much all the key players from last year and this saw Sirius opening the campaign with back-to-back wins, which gave enough points to feel comfortable after that.
Even the season-ending injury suffered by the team’s best centre-back Ahman-Persson as early as round 3 and the long absences for 3-4 other players during 2019 didn’t unsettle the general displays much.
Once again Sirius didn’t have typical centre forward in their ranks, but adaptable midfielder Haglund led the attack very well for second year running and with 6 goals and 6 assists to his name he was crucial.
Probably decisive for the survival were the last 6 rounds before the summer break with Sirius collecting 10 points from those games and opening solid lead over the bottom 3 sides for the rest of the season.
Looking ahead Blue and Blacks hope for an even better second year under their manager, with the main core of players expected to remain loyal and also those that suffered with injuries in 2019 hoping to be much more fortunate next year. Signing a centre forward this winter seems to be the main priority.
