Alfreton secured a third season in the Conference Premier level after ensuring survival with a few games left to spare. It was a good season for the Reds who were largely comfortable in mid-table for most of the campaign and quickly arrested the slide that threatened to drag them down. The opening few games of the season were tough as Nicky Law's men won just one of the first six games, conceding some very poor goals and losing heavily to newcomers Nuneaton and Dartford. But the poor run was stopped with a couple of good wins over Lincoln and Luton, the latter particularly standing out as an assured display secured a commanding 3:0 win. The well-drilled and physical side then went six games without a loss and produced some very good displays along the way. The mixture of grit and determination in midfield along with speed and trickery on the wings provided by Nathan Arnold made a good mix for the Midlands outfit who continued to steer clear of the drop zone by getting the odd win with a dramatic 4:3 victory over high-flyers Newport County one of the highlights of the season. The form of the team remained relatively stable as the season progressed as they struggled to get a number of win on the trot but were also avoiding serious slumps. However, a run of just one win in eight games from January onwards kept them not too far away from the bottom four. However, the worries about a demise were dispersed after winning three of the next five games, all against direct rivals for the drop. There was still tension going to the vital Easter games as a 2:0 loss against another direct rival in Lincoln kept them just two points clear of the drop zone. But three magnificent wins after that against Southport, Barrow and Tamworth eventually got them over the line. It was a good season without any spectacular heights or lows and Law will be happy that his side managed to save themselves even though the challenge will be even tougher next season.
