Football Season Review

№3: Besiktas JK

In general, the 3rd place would not be appreciated by the Besiktas fans, but they will feel happy to see their team finishing in the top 3 this time around after they had been in the relegation zone in the early fixtures. Depending on CAS’s final decision on Trabzon ban, they could even find themselves in CL’s qualifiying round. Spurred by captain Burak Yilmaz’s 14-goal and 7-assist performance, the Black Eagles have done a pretty good job with coach Sergen Yalcin in charge, a legendary former player of the team, after failing to find the right chemistry with coach Abdullah Avci. It could be said that the bad run occurred between December and January changed their destiny. After falling 11 points away from the top of the league, the board parted the company with coach Avci and heard the fans’ call. First of all, the arrival of coach Yalcin made sure that all the fans set their confidence back into the team. Then the coach led his team to record 11 victories in 15 fixtures. Of course, bad results in the Turkish Cup and EL disappointed the fans a lot, but Besiktas have really done a very important job with coach Sergen Yalcin anyway. The reasons for the way things went were absolutely economical. It is known that they have big debts and they were affected by them during the whole season. Some players have left because of it and most of them struggled to concentrate. The club president said that the fans will not be able to see any sensational transfer in summer, but the coach said that they will build a squad which will play for the title race. It seems that obtaining some financial support by accessing the CL’s group stage will be vital.
