Football Season Review

№12: Boavista FC

Another midtable performance for Panteras. This season was marked by some attempts to change the team’s philosophy, but the direct and battling football remains their heavy trademark for seasons to come. Wth Lito Vidigal at the helm, Boavista was able to follow a good starting run of 9 rounds without defeats but, as soon as opponent’s spotted Axadrezados one dimensional style, their tricks were neutralized and Lito eventually had to leave after a negative run. Daniel Ramos was brought in and he tried to implement a more passing style, which was more in tune with the unusual big number of talented players in the squad. It was however a big initial failure, as the team was still too attached to previous concepts. By round 17, Boavista was yet to find their moment, and distance from relegation spots was not safe at all. Daniel Ramos was forced to bring back the team’s good old style and some crucial points were picked. Team was far too irregular and so were the individual performances. Hélton Leite started the season very late due to injury but, as soon as he was fit, he immediately became a key asset in goal. Carraça, Ricardo Costa and Fabiano embodied the team’s combative spirit at the back; Bueno, Sauer and Paulinho represented the team’s talent upfront. Ramos should leave for next season. It would be interesting to see what route will the club opt for next season, as there are enough talented players to bring the club to another level.
