A disappointing season for Vimaranenses. There was always a feeling that the team was playing well, but results were frequently less than desirable. One of those cases were the quality on the pitch wasn’t followed by results.
A bad start was the preview for what the season would bring for Guimarães: an inability to convert the good attacking football into goals combined with some tendency to concede (only 11 clean sheets in season).
Good, fat wins over Belenenses and Moreirense were a show of what the team was capable of in attack, but those were always followed by upsets.
Ivo Vieira was irreducible in bringing a passing style and dominant mindset for Guimarães, in continuation of what Luis Castro had done the previous year. However, team could only reach the heights of previous season irregularly.
Davidson had a great start, but slowly faded away and ended the season agonizing on the bench. Pepê was the most consistent player, but even him had his ups and downs during the season.
Bruno Duarte and Leo Bonatini were a promise for goals in the beginning of the season, but failed to even get near the expectations. Injuries were far too many: Amoah, André André, Pedro Henriques and goalkeeper Jhonatan were some examples.
There’s evidently great quality in the squad. If injuries don’t bother as they did this season and a good coach is found to replace Ivo Vieira, the fans can be hopeful for next season.
