Bray had been a solid top half Premier League club over the recent years, but things took a major turn for the worse for them midway through the 2017 season, when they started to find themselves in heavy financial problems, which caused payments to be late and important players to leave.
The Wanderers managed to stay up last season due to the points they accumulated in the first half of the campaign but were always facing an uphill task this time around.
They started off with a goalless away draw at eventual champions Dundalk, and the result remarkably remained the only away point that they managed to claim during the entire course of the season.
The Wanderers had four different managers over the course of the season and had a brief upturn in fortunes under former Limerick boss Martin Russell, but the lack of quality and numbers in their squad was always too much of a blow to overcome and they were often forced to name under 17 players in match day squads due to not having 18 professional players available.
Unsurprisingly, given all this, the Wanderers dropped to the bottom of the table three rounds into the season and never managed to move up. They were therefore relegated to the second tier and, given the overall state of the club, it is hard to see them return any time around.
