St.Patrick's are coming from another season of mediocrity, as they had to settle for a midtable finish and therefore failed to qualify for Europe.
The Dubliners showed moments of brilliance, namely in May, when they had a four-game winning streak, and in September, when they had a run of four games from which they collected ten points.
However, the first of these runs was followed by an eight-game losing streak that effectively ended any hopes that they may have had of battling for an European place.
While the Saints have been a midtable club over the recent years, their aims were always higher. Liam Buckley arguably survived the 2016 season due to managing to win the League Cup and many fans wanted him out following the end of the previous campaign. However, the club officials have decided to wield the axe only now and it has been announced that Buckley will not have his contract extended.
The new St. Patrick's manager is the experienced Harry Kenny, who will be expected to deliver a much better campaign next time around.
