The often controversial chairman of the club said he was "mad" about the club not clinching the minimal goal of 40 points during this season.
That can only be seen as a message for the future rather than a pure analysis of the season's performance. It was clear from early on that Marítimo was going to struggle to reach that mark.
After losing against their arch-rivals (and relegated to be) Nacional, Cláudio Braga was sacked and Petit brought in. Things didn't improve immediately, continuing a bad sequence with only two points picked from round 5 to 15.
Things only improved when Danny left the club. Hailed as the star for the season, the former Portuguese international had a negative influence as he never seemed to have fit the team and decided to leave by himself.
The major breakthrough, however, came when Petit decided to make a massive change on the lineup. Valente was set aside; Joel, Correa, Gamboa and Bebeto were removed in favour of Getterson, Barrera, Pelágio and Nanu.
While continuing losing on the road, Marítimo went on on an almost perfect run at Estádio dos Barreiros. Goalkeeper Charles contributed a lot with many important saves, as Marítimo continued to concede many shots.
Judging from the chairman's words and the highly irregular performance of almost all squad, Marítimo should undergo an agitated summer to build a more competitive side for next season.
