Grasshopper are another one of the Super League traditional clubs that had a disappointing season, as the Zurichers spent the majority of the season battling against the drop.
While not being great by any stretch of imagination, things went reasonably well for them in the first half of the campaign, as they finished the autumn season reasonably close to the top four and were hoping for a European push. However, everything changed following the winter break, as they started the spring season with a run of six games from which they collected only one point, with the run causing the Zurichers to part ways with their boss Pierluigi Tami.
They opted to promote from within and name Carlos Bernegger, the former manager of Luzern and their sporting director, as their new manager, while another key change in the spring summer saw Munas Dabbur, who left them at the end of the previous season but struggled to adapt to his new club Red Bull Salzburg, was loaned in from the Austrian champions. Bernegger did a good job of steadying the ship and Dabbur produced a reasonable return of seven goals in the thirteen games he played in, with all this being enough for the Zurichers to finish eight points above Vaduz and even contemplate a top five finish at one point.
Grasshopper are one of only three Super League sides that failed to score 50 goals this season, with the other two being St.Gallen and relegated Vaduz. With Caio being their only player to reach double digits in terms of goals this season and Dabbur set to return to Salzburg now, Grasshopper's big challenge for the upcoming summer will be to find an attacking player that can guarantee them at least ten goals next time around.
