Estoril had a disappointing 2023-24 season, finishing too close from the relegation spots, after a serious investment in the beginning of the season. It seems that last season's unsuccessful run stopped the club's high investment in the transfer market, and that may not be a bad thing, as the club needs to get in touch with reality and form some identity as opposed to having a different squad each year. Scottish Ian Cathro is the new manager for 'Canarinhos. Cathro will have his first experienced as the main gaffer after the almost traumatic spell with Hearts, in 2016/17. Since then, he had a a few jobs as assistant in top clubs like Tottenham, Wolverhampton and, more recently, in Al-Ittihad. Estoril lost a few important players from last season, such as the excellent winger Rodrigo Gomes, the attacking midfielder João Marques, centre-half João Basso and central midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The last two were announced departures, since they had short-term loan contracts. Goalkeeper Carné and powerful striker Cassiano are also important departures. On the way in, Estoril brought several unknown players in the country, but also a couple of established, solid new signings. The left-back Pedro Amaral will surely establish himself as a strong team player throughout the season, and Hélder Costa will finally have the chance to show his skills and talent in Portugal after an entire carreer abroad. The centre-half position was one of the main problems in last season (many injuries), and the club attacked the issue bringing Kevin Boma and Felix Baucher. In midfield, Estoril signed permanently with Vinicíus Zanocelo, which was a major move for the next season. With him, Mor Ndiaye and Michel Costa, the midfield won't pose any issues for the season. Without Cassiano, Alejandro Marques should be assuming the first option for the striker position permanently, now with the good André Lacximicant as cover. For the wings, it will be crucial that Rafik Guitane recovers his excellent form of the first months of last season.

Target

Stay out of relegation contention. Aim for a mid-table position.
