Gil Vicente had an irregular season, last year, with some ups and downs and never capable of reaching what some expected in the beginning of the season. Still, they achieved their main goal of staying out of relegation contention relatively early. The young Tozé Marreco will start the season, after arriving at Barcelos in the final rounds of last one, as Gil Vicente was having their worst period of the season. Marreco was the third manager of that season, and had a good immediate impact on the team, with 2 wins, 2 draws and just 1 defeat. Gil Vicente looks more solid for the new season. 'Galos' lost the influential midfielder Martim Neto, both left-backs (Buta and Kiko), and should also lose their main centre-half Gabriel in the next days or weeks. Murilo is also a big name leaving, but he wasn't as influential as he had been in other times. The vast majority of the main players will remain for the new season and there are some very interesting additions. Gil Vicente focused mainly on national transfers and ones coming from Spain. For the back, Gil Vicente made a very important new signing on Josué Sá and brought the reputed left-back Marcos Fernandez. Mutombo is also an important new name that will put out a strong contest to Zé Carlos on the right side. In the middle, Caseres and Yaya are very interesting new signings, but the main players are already on the squad: the fans are very exciting on the prospect of having an audacious formation with Mory Gbane behind the two creatives Kanya and Maxime. In attack, Felix is the main talent of the team (now at Gil Vicente on a permanent deal), and Depú should start the season as the main reference in the centre. However, there are some hopes that new striker Aguirre will become the new Fran Navarro, as there are some similarities in their styles.

Target

The team looks strong enough to aim for higher goals than just avoiding relegation. Gil Vicente might become one of the sensations of the season.
