Football Season Guide

Moreirense had an excellent season in 2023-24, their best ever. ´Cónegos' finished in 6th position, which was way above anyone's expectation. However, for the new season, Moreirense will have to face several problems. Not only the mastermind of last season's success, manager Rui Borges, is gone, but also some of the most important left too: João Camacho, Kodisang and, above all, Gonçalo Franco will be hard to replace, not to mention that striker André Luis had left in January, already. On the new signings, one should keep an eye on striker Guilherme Schettine, who will want to revive his excellent 2019 year with Santa Clara, after failing to live up for expectations on the following years. All other new signings are young talents without experience at top flight level. Despite significant losses for the new season, Moreirense looks solid with 3 good goalkeepers and a strong duo at the back (Maracás-Marcelo, with Ponck as a valuable cover). In midfield, provided he'll stay out of injury problems, Alanzinho is expected to retain his excellent for of last season's first half. It isn't clear who will make up for Franco's departure, though. In attack, Asué in the centre and Madson and Hernâni are decent options, but it will be crucial for the team that new signing Schettine shows his best football and stays out of out of the pitch issues.
