Hannover made more progress last season after finishing in a respectable sixth place. The Reds were pleasing on the eye under coach Stefan Leitl but too many draws and indifferent away form saw their promotion hopes fade into the new year. Despite some rumours of a possible departure, Leitl continues at the helm for now. Things have definitely moved in the right direction during his tenure so it would be silly to make changes to the process now. There is a good blend of youth and experience in the squad and that should make them an interesting watch for the new campaign. Losing the ever-improving Arrey-Mbi in defence was a blow but English centre-back Josh Knight is a solid replacement and should work well alongside main-man Halstenberg. Knight can also be a threat at set-pieces with his aerial ability. Hannover should again be strong offensively despite the loss of Teuchert. Nielsen and Voglsammer are seasoned pros while Tresoldi is improving rapidly. Ngankam has also joined on loan from Frankfurt and will have a point to prove after not being able to unleash his potential in the Bundesliga. Pacey left-winger Rochelt is another decent signing after impressing with Elversberg but you do feel the wide positions will need strengthening further before the window shuts.

Target

There is no reason why Hannover can't make a serious challenge for promotion, the league has got even tougher this year but a good start and an improvement on the road could see them in the mix.
