Football Season Review

№10: Bath City

Bath City can look back to one of the most successful seasons in their history as they comfortably secured their place in the league after promotion and played some lovely football along the way. Addie Britton's troops were one of the favourites for the drop having earned promotion through the play-offs the season before. A relatively modest squad did not gave the fans too much grounds for optimism too and sure enough the players found it hard to get going at the new level early on. They were tucked in the bottom four at the end of September but then a superb 2:1 win away at Cambridge gave everyone at the club a huge morale boost and they never looked back from then on. They embarked on a great run of form, earning some superb results like drawing 2:2 at home to Darlington when being two goals time in the last minute of normal time and also winning 3:2 away at Southport when being two goals down as well. The spirit generated by Britton who had a small but very tight and closely-knit squad was tremendous and the players were working extremely hard for each other. Kaid Mohamed was providing flair up front and Alex Russell's experience in the middle of the park was invaluable. The team ended the year with just one defeat in the last three months, away at Luton, and maintained a solid run of form throughout the campaign. It was more of the same after the turn of the year when the team recorded a great win away at Newport County and staged a great comeback for a 2:2 draw at home to AFC Wimbledon. By February, safety was pretty much in the bag and the results dipped a little bit, mostly due to injuries that left the squad down to the bare bones. However, the Romans recovered well and ended the season in reasonable form, at the end making it into the top ten which is a marvellous achievement for a newly promoted side that kept the core of the team from last season.
