Bologna produced an almost identical campaign to last season. They finished in the same position and scored the same number of goals whilst comfortably achieving safety. The club has managed to stabilise itself in the top flight over the past few years but there have been no real signs of improvement. Perhaps it is this very reason that Roberto Donadoni decided to part ways with the Rossoblu at the end of the season. He has achieved a 14th and two 15th place finishes. It's solid work from the former Italian national team boss but it appears he feels he has taken the team as far as he can.
The biggest disappointment comes from the fact that Bologna appeared to have a good summer transfer window with most of the core of their team remaining and additions made in every area. Not many of them made a great impact though. Uruguayan duo César Falletti and Felipe Avenatti were brought in to bolster the attack but they hardly played and contributed next to nothing. Mattia Destro missed periods of the season too and remains wholly unprolific.
The defence was bolstered by the likes of Sebastian De Maio and Giancarlo Gonzalez but that only accounted for conceding six fewer goals than last season. Veterans Blerim Dzemaili and Rodrigo Palacio were still able to pull the odd performance out of the bag on occasion
The star of the season for the Rossoblu was Simone Verdi. He scored some fantastic goals throughout the season and is perhaps now ready to return to a big club.
Bologna are now going into a period of uncertainty. They knew what they were getting with Donadoni but it remains to be seen whether a new manager will be able to take them forward.
