St.Gallen entered the campaign surrounded by fear after struggling badly in the late stages of the previous season, but Peter Zeidler managed to steady the ship and cause the Green-Whites to spend the majority of the first half of the season inside the top four.
They were playing some outstanding football at times, with Vincent Sierro in particular being in fine form, but their best play came early in the campaign and they eventually started to decline.
The turning point of their season was arguably their game versus Lugano in late September, in which they were held to a draw after letting a 2:0 lead slip and lost both Cedric Itten and Nicolas Luchinger to long-term injuries.
They never really managed to get back from the level from early in the campaign and even battled against the drop for a while, but eventually improved, with veteran Tranquillo Barnetta, who will retire in the summer, carrying the side with crucial goals and assists.
They entered the final round hoping to qualify for Europe, but managed only a draw at Zurich and ended up missing out on an European place on goal difference.
While certainly having their moments, they have failed to achieve their pre-season goal and their campaign thus has to be seen as a disappointment.
