Pro Vercelli finished the season in 17th position, exactly as the previous one, however, unlike that, they did not have to struggle until the last round to avoid relegation, but managed to handle the last games with a certain tranquility. The biggest question was linked to the inexperience of coach Moreno Longo coming from Torino Primavera, who was an absolute novice having only coached youth teams. But Longo proved to be a good motivator and very wise...started with a very attacking 4-3-3 system of play, but soon switched to a more cautious 3-5-2, definitively more suitable to the characteristics of the players at his disposal. The first half of the year was quite troubled, the Piedmonteses were always in the last positions, often inside the relegation zone, they didn't display a bad football and looked well organized, but lacked the necessary determination and cynicism. The club managers showed a great competence during the winter market making targeted purchases that proved to be the team's salvation. First of all they let go the very disappointing forward Giulio Ebagua to replace him with experienced Rolando Bianchi, he didn't score much (5 goals) but gave a great contribution to open space in attack. Furthermore they took on loan from Torino experienced midfielder Giuseppe Vives, who added muscles and brain to the crucial part of the filed, and striker Mattia Aramu, who, with his great skills, contributed to making the attack actions more unpredictable. In the second half of the season slowly self-confidence grew among players, also thanks to the change of system, they strung together a long streak of defeatless games, maybe too many draws, but they helped Pro to leave the relegation zone and reach a reassuring positioning in the mid-lower part of the table. The Piedmonteses season has also been characterized by long-term injuries of important players such as striker Andrea La Mantia, who was still the best Pro goal scorer (9 goals), left back Carlo Mammarella, very important especially on set-pieces, midfielder Daniele Altobelli, who couldn't give his usual contribution in the defensive play, and attacking midfielder Armando Vajushi from whom was expected creativity in attack. Apart from the aforementioned players who arrived in January, a note of merit must be given to goalkeeper Ivan Provedel who has always shown confidence between the sticks.
