Sint-Truiden missed out on Play-off I dramatically for the second consecutive season and not just that but then the Canaries also dramatically lost control over their group in Play-off II and the campaign had bitter end despite the many good displays.
The Canaries were particularly impressive at home throughout the season with their first home loss not coming until January when future champions Genk came to town and won. Unfortunately the only other home loss was in the final round of the regular season when 0:2 defeat vs. KAA Gent resulted in Sint-Truiden being replaced by the Buffalos in Play-off I.
The hunger to play in Europe was still there though and strong start to the play-offs (3 wins and 3 draws) saw Sint-Truiden building seemingly solid lead in race to win their group and qualify for Play-off II final.
Unfortunately crucial 0:2 away defeat vs. Charleroi and frustrating 2:2 home draws vs. Beerschot and Eupen on each side saw Sint-Truiden missing out on the top spot in the group and ending the season angry.
Many players had breakthrough campaigns, but none impressed more than attacking midfielder Kamada (15 goals and 9 assists). His countryman Tomiyasu also had season to remember in defence, while Sankhon and De Sart showed rapid improvement and both are seen as the backbone of the team for next season.
With their ambitious Japanese owners and burning for success after 2 seasons of near misses Sint-Truiden won’t lack ambition and hunger next season.
