Stenhousemuir failed to build on a bright start to the season and finished in 6th place. The season ended on a sour note with manager Davie Irons departing. Team captain Jonathan Tiffoney was also embroiled in an ugly mental health remark about another player.
Prior to the COVID-enforced league suspension, Stenhousemuir had a reasonable chance of reaching the promotion play-offs (W3 D3 L3). When the league restarted in March, the Warriors struggled and endured a miserable run-in with 4 defeats in their final 6 matches.
Away form was a particular problem (W2 D3 L6). Apart from an opening 3-1 win at Albion Rovers, Stenhousemuir struggled to score on the road for the rest of the season.
Biabi and McGuigan were joint top scorers with 6 goals each. Nobody else in the squad scored more than 2 goals. Martin dominated the goalkeeping position with 20 appearances over the season.
Stenhousemuir’s aim was to contest the play-offs but they failed. Davie Irons took responsibility and resigned before he was fired. The club’s reputation and morale were further sapped by headlines about alleged abuse from Jonathan Tiffoney.
Stenhousemuir now have Stephen Swift as manager. He is well respected in the lower leagues but has no experience at this level. Stenhousemuir are taking a risk and could be in for a difficult season.
