Football Season Review

№7: Torino

A much improved season for Torino in Walter Mazzarri's first full campaign in charge as they flirted with Champions League qualification at one point but were unlucky to miss out on Europe in the end. The Granata finished two places higher and 9 points better off than last season but perhaps too many draws is what cost them European qualification in the end - they weren't quite decisive enough in certain games. Andrea Belotti has struggled with injuries the past couple of years and that has affected his performances but Il Gallo began to find his form again towards the end of the season - becoming much more prolific and scoring some sensational goals including a memorable overhead kick against Sassuolo. It was at the other end of the pitch were Toro showed the most improvement. The acquisition of Armando Izzo helped sure up the defence alongside Nicolas Nkoulou but it was the man furthest back who shone the most. Salvatore Sirigu kept 15 clean sheets in Serie A - second only to Samir Handanovic. Mazzarri has revived his reputation this season and he has a very promising squad to work with - the next goal will surely be to get back into Europe.
