Football Season Review

№18: Adanaspor

For every newly promoted team, it is vital to reach a Super League squad quality in order to survive at the top level. After Adana won the title of the first division, they did not save the main structure of their champions squad. It could be said that 80% of the important players left the team. Of course, they needed to add some new faces in order to strengthen their squad. They did but it was clear that the quality of the newcomers was a big question mark. At this point, the club president could be criticized because he did not invest in the team although the league revenues were good enough. Besides that, to kick off the season with coach Krunoslav Jurcic, who was going to have his first experience in the Super League, was not right according to the authorities. His time in charge should have been ended early on since they could collect only one point in his last nine fixtures. After his resignation, the board appointed coach Levent Sahin. His arrival worked well in the early meetings but then another problem was revealed. He has also been working as the assistant of the Turkish national team head coach. So he was unable to attend some trainings during the national fixtures. It was also criticized a lot by the fans. As already occurred in some parts of the season, the reserve team coach Eyup Arin took the caretaker charge in the last fixtures. It is sure that they will now part company with most of the foreign players. It means that they have lots of things to do in order to build a squad for the next season because there have only a few talented Turkish players including Tevfik, Cem, Bekir and Ahmet in the team. If they managed to keep their survival hopes alive until April, it was thanks to Gueye, who gave a big contribution in terms of goals and assists. If the board manages to keep him in the team, it will be a great job for the next season’s goal.

Player of the Season: Magaye Gueye
