Admira were widely seen as a side that overperformed by finishing sixth in the 2016/17 season and, with top scorer Christoph Monschein gone, were widely expected to struggle this time around.
However, the Modlingers went on to enjoy an even better campaign this time around, as they finished fifth after overcoming numerous issues that they had to deal with over the course of the season.
Damir Buric kept delivering good results the way he did after being appointed during the previous season but left the club only three months into the new campaign, having been tempted away by German club Greuter Furth.
Ernst Baumeister, who was also the assistant of former manager Oliver Lederer, replaced Buric as caretaker but, with Admira riding high come the end of the autumn season, was given the job on a permanent basis.
The winter saw Admira lose another key man in Christoph Knasmullner, who joined English Championship side Barnsley, while the Modlingers also had to deal with a long-term injury suffered by their skipper Daniel Toth, which saw him miss the majority of the second half of the season.
Their results inevitably declined a bit in the second half of the season, but they never dropped out of the top half and clinched a fifth-placed finish with two games to spare after playing out a home draw with Mattersburg.
While there is no doubt that Admira are a well-run club, they have to deal with constant departures of key men and are unlikely to keep their best players over the summer, with key defender Markus Wostry having already agreed a move away and more departures likely to follow.
