St.Polten have had a difficult season which ended in them managing to stay up thanks to the restructuring of the Bundesliga system.
The Wolf Pack barely escaped the drop last time around and got off to a poor start this campaign and Jochen Fallmann, who guided them to safety last time around, was fired in mid September after St.Polten had collected only point from their opening eight games.
Oliver Lederer, the former boss of their regional rivals Admira, took over, but managed to register his first win at the helm only in November, and it was the sole win that the Wolf Pack managed in the autumn season.
There was still a glimmer of hope going into the winter break that St.Polten might avoid finishing bottom and they made several signings during the winter, but the results did not really change and Lederer was relieved of his duties in late March and was replaced by Didi Kuhbauer.
Kuhbauer went on to collect only a point from his opening five games, but guided the Wolf Pack to three consecutive wins at the end of their league campaign. As there was no direct relegation this season, St.Polten played Neustadt, who they beat 3:1 on aggregate to secure their top flight survival.
All in all, the Wolf Pack will be delighted to have avoided the drop, but the warning signs are there and they will need to severely strengthen during the summer if they are to stay up next time around.
