Football Season Review

№17: Birmingham City

Birmingham had an eventful season, briefly flirting with the play-off spots at one point as they adjusted well to life under Garry Monk. The off field issues ultimately proved their undoing with a nine points deduction turning them from dark horses for the play-offs into contenders for relegation overnight. That prospect of relegation was swiftly averted thanks to a seven-game unbeaten run at the end of the campaign. Birmingham relied on a core group of around 15 players this season due to the dire state of their finances. They are unlikely to be able to go out and spend much on new players over the summer either so the next campaign could be equally difficult. That said Monk will be very happy with his players' efforts this term given the situation they found themselves in. They have become a hard working side under their latest boss and they will look for further progress next time around. Che Adams was player of the season thanks to an impressive campaign where he found the net 22 times. The Blues may well struggle to hold on to him during the summer.
