Football Season Review

№4: West Bromwich Albion

West Brom will be devastated to miss out on a Premier League return after a season where they looked so good at times and average at others. Darren Moore had seemingly done a good job to take his side into the top six but was sacked a few weeks before the end of the campaign. James Shan was a surprise choice as caretaker manager for the remaining games and oversaw a play-off bid but it was too much for him. Harvey Barnes had a sensational first half of the season on loan from Leicester and appeared to be leading West Brom back up. But when he left in January to return to his parent club that left a real hole. Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez scored goals for fun with the former scoring 24 and latter 22. But lapses of concentration at the other end often cost West Brom. Discipline late in the season was also a problem with sending offs in the last three games including for Gayle and Chris Brunt in the play-offs ultimately cost them despite an heroic semi-final second leg display. West Brom need to obviously sort their managerial situation out over the summer but there should be no reason why they cannot challenge again next season with a few additions.

Player of the Season: Dwight Gayle
