Football Season Review

№21: Millwall

After such a good season last time around, it was a real disaster for Millwall this time. Their poor form towards the end of the campaign meant they were only saved by the drop as other sides run out of games. The Lions were dreadful in the last couple of months of the season and exhaustion must have played some part due to a relatively small squad. Neil Harris finished the season furious, laying into his players, and promised a big summer clearout. Already Lee Gregory, a major player over the last few years, has left with others set to follow. It appears as if Millwall have lost some of the team spirit that made them such a formidable outfit, especially on home soil, under Harris' management. They showed glimpses of that fighting spirit as they made the FA Cup quarter-finals and were somewhat unfortunate not to progress as they lost to Brighton having been in a winning position. Gregory, who found the net 13 times in the campaign, was named player of the year demonstrating how much he will be missed. Jake Cooper and Murray Wallace were also standout players at the back while Ben Thompson really came on in the second half of the campaign.
