Football Season Review

Champions: Lincoln City

Lincoln City were head and shoulders above their League 2 opponents and were deservedly crowned Champions. It is their second title in three seasons under the guidance of manager Danny Cowley, and his brother Nicky. Their star is certainly in the ascendancy and will be looking to take the Imps to new heights with a new stadium on the horizon. Their success is no secret; building a dynamic side full of pace and power which play to their strengths. They create an intensity which saw them spend 40 weeks of the season at the top of the table. They went on an incredible 20-match unbeaten run which was only ended once promotion was secured. Cowley made a brave decision last summer in allowing leading goalscorer Matt Green to leave and spent big money to replace him with striker John Akinde. It paid off with Akinde plundering 17 goals. He fed off the supply line of wingers Bruno Andrade and Harry Anderson, who were ably assisted by full-backs Harry Toffolo and Neal Eardley. Michael Bostwick was the mainstay of the side, missing just one game as he was voted player of the season. Cowley has already said he has no intention of consolidating in League One next season; equating it with treading water and said the target was establishing the club with a plan to reach the Championship.
